I know lots of people have barely touched make up since the lockdown came into place as really, there was no point. I was definitely one of these people early throughout the first lockdown, but I’ve found recently, even before the restrictions starting being relaxed, that I’ve been reaching for my make up a lot more.
I still don’t wear it nearly as much as I used to. I’m still very much loving the ease of being make up free but there is something nice about that ‘put together’ feeling that wearing make up brings. I’ve also found that my make up habits have changed, I’m definitely more a fan of enhancing my appearance with make up instead of applying a lot of foundation or concealer, I’m definitely more light-handed than I used to be which I don’t think is a bad thing. This could also be because I’m older now or because I’m lazy and can’t be bothered to spend ages doing make up… either one really.
With that being said, there is still products that I reach for daily – even throughout lockdown I’ve continuously been grooming my brows (always do these myself anyway) and curling my eyelashes. I generally focus on these two main areas, brows and lashes and I’m good to go! I also don’t buy as much makeup as I used to do but I do still love applying it (it’s fun!). There are products that I just always find myself reaching for and repurchasing.
One of my go-to products is the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. I have used this for years, literal years. Not only has the brand had a makeover in the time that I’ve been using this product but they’ve also had a whole name change (anyone else remember when they used to be called Collection 2000??).
This is a full coverage concealer that also has staying power. It’s also affordable (buy it from Sainburys if you can, they always have offers on). I’m aware that it had a bit of a makeover recently and I think the formula has changed a tiny bit, but I think for the better as it’s still such a good product. I’m not sure whether with the makeover, they also reduced the size of the concealer as it definitely doesn’t seem to last me as long as it used to, but this could also just be me applying it/using it more.
A new product that is becoming a fast favourite of mine is the L’Oreal Paris True Match Foundation. This is something I bought on a whim after seeing good reviews of it online and it also being reduced. I matched my shade online (and got it pretty much spot-on) and have been using it for the last 8 months or so and I have to say that it’s a really good foundation. I’ve found that it’s super blendable, either with a brush or make up sponge (I haven’t figured out which one I like more) and it’s also adaptable, I think it’s marketed as a full coverage foundation (which it is) but I’ve also found that I can just apply a small amount and it still gives me that fresh-faced look without being or feeling heavy. I would say that it’s a very matt foundation and I usually go for something a bit more dewy but needless to say, I really like it and it’ll definitely be my go-to foundation for years to come as it’s affordable and reliable.
I tend to always reach for a bronzer or blush now too. I find that if I use a blush that is shimmery, I can get away without applying a highlighter as the blush has already warmed up my complexion and added that glow to my skin too. I really like using bronzer to warm up my face and one of my favourites to use recently has been the L’Oreal Paris Back to Bronze Matt Bronzing Powder. It’s matt, not shimmery or glittery and is a really good colour for my skin. I used this to contour my face a little bit too as it’s a very versatile product.
I’ve really been focusing on looking after my skin via my skincare and applying a few make up products that make me look and feel good but still *me*. These products as mentioned above, good brows (I use the Soap Brow Method), curled lashes and lots of mascara is perfect for me.
What are the products you reach for daily? Have you been wearing make up throughout lockdown?
