I love a good, gentle cleanser. I think it’s really important to not overwork your skin and as long as you’re exfoliating at least once or twice a week, there’s not much need to do it daily. I have dry skin and I find that if I use a scrub or something exfoliating more often, it only makes the dry patches worst. It’s really important to hydrate your skin and keep it hydrated. I like to do this through all my products, not just my moisturiser. I think a good cleanser can really make a difference to your skincare routine and there’s a few that I turn to all the time.
At the moment, the cleanser I turn to most days is the Shea Moisture African Black Soap – I do think this product could do with a rebrand as it’s not genuine black soap. I think this is more a marketing ploy and I’ve seen some people get a bit annoyed at the branding online. I actually got this from Amazon as I believe shea Moisture is an American brand. It’s not an instant fix but over time it’s meant to help troubled skin as it helps with oil control.
I think using this has made a difference to my skin so I would definitely recommend it. I would say though that if you have dry skin already this might not be for you as it’s very drying in its nature. I think there are ways around this – only using this product at night or every few days instead of every day. I wouldn’t use this product for a first cleanse if you wear make up, I like to think of it more as a skincare treatment so I only use this on already clean skin. I think it makes a great second cleanse or for use first thing in the morning but I would make sure you spend time adding moisture back into your skin. It’s a bit of a balance and only you will know your skin but I do think this product is working for me.
Some other great cleansers that I rate are the Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse and also their Special Cleansing Gel. Their Pre-Cleanse is great as it has such a lovely consistency – it works so well for a first cleanse before going in with another product. I think this does a great job of removing make up as it has an oil-based consistency. I like to use this when I’m having a bit of a pamper evening but I also think it works well as part of an evening routine or first thing in the morning to wake up your skin.
Their Special Cleansing Gel is another great cleanser, it’s one of the first products I used by Dermalogica and I instantly fell in love with it. It is super gentle but does a great job of removing make up and impurities. It also never leaves my skin feeling dry. I like to use this in the morning or evening. I think it’s a great all-rounder of a cleanser and always leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean.
Another cleanser that I like to use, is the Elemental Herbology Radiance & Vitality Cleanser. This is really lovely to use and very gentle. This is one that I definitely reach for in the morning as it leaves my skin feeling lovely and clean without any dryness or tightness. It’s also very brightening so perfect on those days you don’t want to get out of bed!
The last cleanser that I tend to turn to a lot of the Templespa In the Beginning Deep Cleansing Melt. This is a very thick feeling balm that does such a good job at removing make up. It honestly melts it away and is the first product that I turn to when I want make-up OFF. I do find that because it is a fairly heavy balm, that I do personally like to follow it up with another cleanser as my skin feels a bit too full of product still – I think this would be different if you used a flannel to remove the product as stated though…
Overall, I like to keep my routine simple and I regularly turn to a few cleaners that I trust. I don’t like to overwhelm my skin but sometimes one cleanser just doesn’t cut it…
