How I Get My Glow.

This post contains previously gifted products.

It’ll be no surprise to you that I love to fake tan, I don’t think I’ve ever naturally tanned my full body from the sun (who has time for that!) but I just love that “put together” feeling that being tanned can bring. I know we’re in lockdown but I’ve been paying a bit more attention to self-tanning recently. I think it’s something to do with it being spring and the sun showing it’s face more, which has made me also want to be glowy and bronzed.

I thought I’d share a few of my favourite, easy to use self-tanning products. I’ve used a range of brands over the years, all from a range of price points. I exclusively use Skinny Tan products at the moment as they’ve been gifting me products for a good while now. I love their range of products, the colour that they give me, and the fact that all their products are cruelty-free and Vegan. I’d recommend them if you’re looking for a new tan to try.

I don’t necessarily think you need to try a really expensive brand to get good results. It’s all in the way you apply it which will detriment how good it looks. I think you’ve really got to experiment and find the right product for you.

I also don’t really have any kind of tan routine at the moment, I’ve very much all or nothing. Sometimes I might religiously tan every week and some weeks I might just not bother. It all depends on how I’m feeling.

The two products that I’m obsessed with right not are the Skinny Tan Coconut Water Mist and also their Milk Chocolate Self Tanning Whip. Both smell amazing, don’t transfer onto your bed sheets or clothes and leave you with such a lovely, deep tan. I have the Milk Chocolate Self Tanning Whip but they actually do a dark chocolate whip as well. The milk chocolate one actually gives me quite a fairly deep, natural-looking tan.

The Coconut Water Tanning Mist is the slightly harder one to apply as it doesn’t have a guide colour. I’ve not had any issues with this where I’ve left patches but it can get streaky if you don’t pay attention to what you’re doing. I think it’s something you have to get used to using and it’s actually quite handy as you don’t have to shower this tan off, you can just pop it on, get dressed and go.

The Milk Chocolate Whip sounds good enough to eat, doesn’t it? It’s more of your classic foam/mousse texture-wise and comes with a guide colour. This one doesn’t have that weird false tan smell either so I really like to use this one if I don’t want to smell like biscuits. I discovered how good this one was when I was worried about running out of my coconut water so I’m really glad I have both of these to use, I won’t be running out any time soon that’s for sure!

As for my routine, I exfoliate and shave the day before, and if I can’t do it the day before I make sure I rinse off in cold water… as cold as I can stand! This just helps you not develop those annoying dots on your legs. I moisturise the usual areas, ankles, knees, elbows etc and then go in with my chosen tan. I leave my hands and feet until last and try to only use what’s left on the glove.

I’ll then wash my hands and wait before getting dressed. I sometimes use the other side of the tanning mitt (which shouldn’t have any tan on) to buff my ankles/elbows etc but I haven’t done this enough yet to know whether it makes a difference yet… and honestly, sometimes I just forget!

I either leave my face pale and use foundation to blend it with my body or I use a make up brush to apply my chosen self-tan to my face. I also don’t cover the whole of my face but make sure to do my jawline and up into my hairline, and anywhere that the sun would naturally hit. I’ve been experimenting with using Facial Tanning Drops too so I might do a whole separate blog post about that too if that’s something you’d like to see?

The easiest time to tan is just before bed as this way it can develop without you accidentally messing it up somehow. I always find the second day of tanning is when it looks it’s best. I make sure I cover my body in moisturiser when I tan too and also lightly exfoliate daily each day after tanning as this helps the tan last.

I find that Skinny Tan products fade rather than go patchy and don’t leave me looking like tiger bread either, so another positive reason about the brand!

Let me know your routine and if you have any Self Tanning tips!
