Creating a proper dressing and make up area for myself is something that I've wanted to do since we moved into the flat but painting/decorating and other furnishings have always come first. Which I have been fine with, however, I think it's about time I stopped trying to do my hair in my phone camera and finally bought a proper mirror.
At the moment, I do my make up in the bathroom which has quite good lighting, but I have to constantly take my make up through to the bathroom to do it, it'll be such a dream when everything is in one place!
I've been trying to gather some inspiration from various places to help me decide what I want/need from this area. Now our flat isn't massive so I won't be getting a whole room to get ready in (not that I'd need/want that anyway) but I'll be able to stand at my chest of drawers and have my own little corner. I really like the idea of having a massive round mirror on the wall, I want something in a gold or wood effect as I think this will add some warmth to the room but finding the right mirror that isn't too expensive is proving to be quite difficult. I have found one I like from Zara Home, but I'll need to do some measuring to figure out whether it's the right size.
The chest of drawers we have is this one from Ikea, and I love it, it's perfect for the two of us as this is where we store most of our clothes, my make up, all our perfume and also other stuff like towels. It can hold a lot but it's a really big chest of drawers so I don't want a mirror hanging above it to look out of place or too small. I also can't decide whether it would look best central, or to the side slightly, with some of my make up, candles and books on display and maybe some art at the other end. I think this is something we'd have to figure out once we've decided on what mirror to get.
As our bed is directly the other side of this area, everything will be reflected (shown in Kate's image above) so because of this, I really want to dress up this area too. I want to add some warm colours into the room and these cushions from Matalan look perfect, and they're so cheap! I love the look of the warm golds and oranges against the pink too.
We really need some new bedding (which will of course be white) but I'm hoping to add texture and colour to make this area more interesting. I also want to work on our bedside tables too. I always think they can look so plain, so I think perhaps adding more of our possessions to these (such as books, art, candles.. can you see a theme here) and this will bring them to life.
First, we need to finish off this room by painting it, then I can think about how I'd like to decorate it. This is one of my least favourite rooms in our flat at the moment as there's no personality in it, it's just so plain, but hopefully, that will all change soon.
What do you think of my plans for this area? Do you have any decorating tips?
